God’s standard of righteousness (justice) is based upon how we treat one another, especially the poor and dispossessed in the land. Jesus Christ characterized his own public ministry with a quote from the Old Testament Prophet Isaiah in Luke 4:18ff when he says,

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to those who are in prison and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor.”

“This life is not godliness, but growth in godliness; not health, but healing; not being, but becoming; not rest, but exercise. We are not now what we shall be, but we are on the way; the process is not yet finished, but it has begun; this is not the goal, but it is a road; at present all does not gleam and glitter, but everything is being purified.” – Martin Luther
